Lynn Hussain

I am an ITEC Massage Therapist, fully insured with current DBS.

I provide a relaxing, stress-free, yet professional treatment. I use any combination of Swedish deep tissue, and trigger point massage that gives you the relief you need.  I have learned by instruction, by experience, and by intuition

Most of us could benefit from a great massage once in a while. Whether we're feeling tight and sore, recovering from injury or surgery, or need to relax and de-stress; a massage can be just the ticket to get us back on track.

I will:

• Provide you with an effective, first class massage treatment.
• Give your body a gentle nudge in the right direction with passive stretches.
• Help you discover problematic movement habits and help you change them.
• Answer all your questions with the best advice I have available.
• Explain everything I'm doing in easy to understand language.
• Give you movement ideas to help maintain and continue the work we've done.

So what do I offer……

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints).

How Does It Work?

While some of the strokes may feel the same as those used in Swedish massage therapy, deep tissue massage isn't the same as having a regular massage with deep pressure.

It's used to break up scar tissue and physically break down muscle "knots" or adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) that can disrupt circulation and cause pain, limited range of motion, and inflammation.

At the beginning of the massage, lighter pressure is generally applied to warm up and prep the muscles. Specific techniques are then applied. The most common techniques include:

Stripping - deep, gliding pressure along the length of the muscle fibres using the elbow, forearm, knuckles, and thumbs

Friction - pressure applied across the grain of a muscle to release adhesions and realign tissue fibres

Deep tissue massage usually focuses on a specific problem, such as chronic muscle pain, injury rehabilitation, and the following conditions:

• Low back pain
• Limited mobility
• Recovery from injuries
• Postural problems
• Muscle tension in the hamstrings, glutes, IT band, legs, quadriceps, rhomboids, upper back
• Osteoarthritis pain
• Sciatica
• Sports concerns (runners, athletes)

Pregnancy Massage

Studies indicate that massage therapy performed during pregnancy can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains.

Swedish Massage aims to relax muscle tension and improve lymphatic and blood circulation through mild pressure applied to the muscle groups of the body. Swedish Massage is the recommended massage method during pregnancy because it addresses many common discomforts associated with the skeletal and circulatory changes brought on by hormone shifts.

Holistic Massage

Massage benefits are both mind and body. It is rare that we take an hour to lie down, close our eyes and just 'be'. An hour's peace and quiet away from ringing phones and demanding children has a definite restorative effect.

For the body, the massage helps taut muscles learn to relax and this, combined with strokes to aid lymphatic drainage, helps to release toxins. The benefits can be felt by all ages, backgrounds and lifestyles. According to research office workers massaged regularly were more alert, performed better and were less stressed than those who weren't massaged. It is not just office workers who benefit. Stress affects different people in a myriad of ways, physically and emotionally. Stiffness and soreness in muscles can be due to a wide range of physical factors from an overly energetic session in the gym or carrying too much shopping home, to poor posture through being seated at a desk all day or excessive time behind the steering wheel. The causes are not always physical however. Emotional tension and the day to day stresses that life throws at us can manifest in headaches caused by a stiff neck and shoulders and the body generally tensing up in response to stress, especially if there is not the opportunity to release.
